Two events occurred in 2003.
1. The first medical student, Mr. Carl Theivagt, from the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine was sponsored by IHDN to Ghana. He performed his elective at the (1) Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, (2) Ho Regional Hospital, and (3) Aflao Hospital from March 29 through April 26, 2003.
2. Three different groups participated in the annual mission trip to Ghana from August 2 through September 5, 2003. The fourteen-member volunteer team included two medical students from SIU-School of Medicine, and one pediatric surgeon, Dr. Ruth Mayworth. A summary of their activities includes:

Medical Outreach Clinics in Agbozume and other villages in Nogokpo, Kpedzakope, Vome Battor and Lotakor. We also saw patients at the IHDN Family Medical Center, Agbozume by Drs. Agamah and Mayforth, Mrs. Vivienne Dawkins and Ms. Angela Devine
