Mr. David Calley

One group was involved with the activities that took place on this trip. A brief summary report follows:

  • Medical Clinic/Rural outreach
We held outpatient clinics at Agbozume, Kpedzakope, Nogokpo and Weta. We saw approximately 400 patients during the entire trip. Ten medical students from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital joined the team for the Health Fair at Weta on Saturday, November 12.

  • Farmers' Workshop
We hosted a workshop for farmers drawn from the Weta, Afife and Avalavi area. At the end of the session we had over 50 farmers attending this workshop. We were not able to host any workshop at Denu/Adafienu because of low interest and lack of time.

  • Anatomy & Physiology classes for High School Seniors
Mr. Mike Arbise lectured 12 High School seniors recruited from the schools in the Agbozume-Klikor area in Anatomy & Physiology. These students were selected based on their abilities and their interest in pursuing careers in nursing, medicine and pharmacy. This group will continue with IHDN-sponsored tutorials in Mathematics during their next holidays. Mr. Mark Dedzo, IHDN Health and Development Scholarship recipient and a senior at the University of Ghana , will be hosting the classes.

  • Nursing Training School
We visited the Nursing and Midwifery council of Ghana and the ministry of Health to learn about the requirements for accreditation of a nursing school. We also took the opportunity to visit a recently accredited private nursing school.

  • Clinic/Medical Center Building Project
We did not start any construction work on this trip.  We spent the time meeting with the chief of Weta and his people to make additional land available to us. We wanted an additional 200 feet but ended up obtaining 100 feet. We are thankful to all who have been praying for this project.

  • Church Service at Weta
We participated in a church service held at the Weta Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005. Our presence attracted several people including the chiefs and elders of Weta to the church. The chief brought his new Bible to church, and during the service one of his daughters read a passage from Revelation. He said he received the Bible on behalf of the whole village. Some of the elders of the village remarked that Christians are in general peaceful and loving people. They said that in any village that has a Christian presence as well as medical care, the people prosper so they are very excited about our work in the village. Dave Calley, Mike Arbise and I were given the opportunity to give exhortations to the congregation.

  • Visit to Aflao, Keta, Ho, Somanya
Our team made very brief stops at Aflao, Keta and Ho to say hello to some of the physicians in the area. At Keta, we observed the lack of progress on the Keta Secondary School Assembly Hall reconstruction project initiated about 2 years ago. We also visited two farms at Somanya. Mr. Calley demonstrated the proper use of the tractor with attachments, including harrow and corn planter.
We thank all of you for your continued support and interest in our work in Ghana. We thank you for your prayers. We believe that we have done our best in the circumstances. We have tried to use our skills and resources to bless the less fortunate people of Ghana. We did not help everybody or solve every problem, but we demonstrated Christ's love to the people. We pray that the seeds we planted will continue to grow and lives will be transformed. Let us continue to pray and encourage one another as we seek to live for Him.  We welcome your comments, questions and feedback.

We will be hosting a presentation on our trip at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 3000 Lenhart Road , Springfield , Illinois , on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at 12:45 pm. We invite you to attend. Lunch will be served so please call Mrs. June Agamah at (217) 787-6530 and make your reservations for lunch.
