INTERNATIONAL HEALTH & DEVELOPMENT NETWORK 1st Medical Mission Trip - 1996
In April 1996, a three-member IHDN team, under the leadership of Dr. Edem Agamah, organized the 1st Health Fair in Agbozume. The 2-day event, held on April 8th and 9th, was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, newly formed village health committee, local churches, chiefs, and volunteer groups. Because community participation in funerals is a major activity in most parts of Ghana, in contrast, the IHDN team celebrated LIFE by developing a life-giving program - THE HEALTH FAIR. Most of the participants were seeing a physician for the first time in their entire life. The team was involved in blood pressure screening, immunization, seminar on Christian Family Life. Also, the Jesus Film translated into the local language, Ewe, was shown. The IHDN visit coincided with the 25th Anniversary of the leadership of Chief of Somey Traditional area, Torgui Hor II. A mutual agreement was reached to incorporate future Health fairs into this celebration, which undoubtedly is important to the community.
